My Life

2020: Graduate high school 2020-2024/5: go to college and graduate with potential for co-op experience during the years with a degree in engineering 2025-2027: Masters?? also could be done while working, just a thought for the future with any type of potential promotions making me better qualified than others. 2025- get a job at a bigger company where there is a wide variety of options for engineers and better benefits... doesn't matter where, but preferably in the general Michigan area 2035 ish: assuming I am at the same company (or if I switched companies, have been at the current company for a while) get a promotion to a management position in the company... going more the way of being more business I guess than specializing in my field which I originally get a degree in

Reflection

I had a really good experience at my job shadow with learning about the different types of things that people can do once they have their degree.  I think that the job shadow was much more helpful than simply looking up and researching the different types of engineering. I think that I was able to learn the most about all of the different types of colleges. Going on the job shadow was helpful, but it didn't fully explain what the daily life is like, but instead just a brief snapshot into a bunch of different jobs. I think it was important since I don't know what type of engineering I want to do. However, I think that seeing the different things such as what an electrical engineer does, or the variety of jobs that a mechanical engineering degree can get you. I met people who tested airbags everyday, and got to see where engineers were able to design new plans for different parts of the cars. That part was really cool because it helped me to understand that even if I get a certa...

Money and Math Dealio

For an average college graduate the amount graduated in debt is   $37,172 . If a 2016 graduate took the standard repayment plan for the   $37,172   borrowed – 10 years, at 4.29% interest rate – they would be paying $382 a month for the next decade, which adds up to $55,008. SALARIES of 2018 Expenses per Year $4,584 for college loans  $240 for a phone $18,060 for a house  $3,638 for food  $1,168.92 for utilities $3,442 for a car $1,385 for healthcare This means that the average expenses will be roughly $32,517 per year, but that is obviously not everything that would need to be accounted for and there is also insurance along with random  expenses and saving money for other extra things in life, so having leeway is really important.

Operation Shadow

For my shadow day I had an opportunity to see a whole bunch of different things. I got a tour which included seeing some of the new projects and how they get people to come in from outside and test their products after figuring out which design is most cost efficient, aerodynamic, and most practical. Then got the chance to see an airbag go off. That was cool, because I actually had no idea that it was an explosion, and they are able to manufacture it so that the airbag will go off later if the person is lighter and change the speed. They also have a flap of fabric where a kid who shouldn't be put in the front seat would be pushed down and not have the air bag explode in their face and break their neck. The "doors" need to be cut or  later on in the day I got to see the inside of  the dashboard and see the doors where the airbag comes out of. I was able to go to the launch area where I was able to learn about some of the different variables that companies take into consi...

Timeline of Engineering

Most of the  more recent accomplishments have been in technology and have increased with time and with each new development the next one becomes that much easier to expand on. All of these different expansions have led into the other as people start imagining how much more is possible.  All of the different things lead into the next. I think that all of these things happened because of individual people who dreamt big. Technology started because someone had an idea and then figured out enough  of the math and combining current and creating new technology to make it a reality.    Because of all of the most recent expansions, the field is growing super fast and in so many different directions. Now there are so many different specializations that you can get a degree in, a lot of them deal with tings that would have been inconceivable not that long ago. I think that in the next 20 years technology will continue improving by leaps and bounds as it has in the pa...

Most Influential Engineers

Elon Musk- Engineer, businessman, inventor, genius - four of the many labels oft attached to South African-born Canadian Musk. Founder of SpaceX - which will almost certainly be taking the average joe on holiday to space sooner rather than later - Tesla Motors - electric cars that actually, you know, work - and SolarCity, which provide solar panels for businesses all over the world. Remember the name, but then again, how could you forget one as unusual as that? Archimedes-  The genius from Greece designed stuff to support his home city – Syracuse. He developed techniques to use heat rays and mirrors to burn the ships of their enemies and developed the famous Archimedes’ screw to remove bilge water from ships as well as the block and tackle pulley system. His inventions have been quite useful to his city and the people. He is known as a gifted mathematician, engineer, inventor, astronomer and physicist and has made some of the most influential contributions to the field of engin...
