Operation Shadow

For my shadow day I had an opportunity to see a whole bunch of different things. I got a tour which included seeing some of the new projects and how they get people to come in from outside and test their products after figuring out which design is most cost efficient, aerodynamic, and most practical. Then got the chance to see an airbag go off. That was cool, because I actually had no idea that it was an explosion, and they are able to manufacture it so that the airbag will go off later if the person is lighter and change the speed. They also have a flap of fabric where a kid who shouldn't be put in the front seat would be pushed down and not have the air bag explode in their face and break their neck. The "doors" need to be cut or  later on in the day I got to see the inside of  the dashboard and see the doors where the airbag comes out of. I was able to go to the launch area where I was able to learn about some of the different variables that companies take into consideration when designing a new product. Then I talked to someone about CAD and just different things about colleges and choosing degrees. Then I had lunch with a couple of different female engineers. After lunch I went with another engineer who talked about computer aided engineering, and electrical engineering along with seeing a bunch of different tooling and the pilot launch area.  Then I went to a meeting where they talked about the different sales they can get, and all of them that they can pay for. And then the day was done.

It was really nice because I was able to see a ton of different types of people and backgrounds to get into engineering and also hear about the different things that people were able to do once they got the degree.
